Adios, North America!

So I have a few days off of work that I need to use before the end of March, so I impulsively decided that I'm going to try my hand at backpacking. I'm heading to COSTA RICA to hang out with monkeys and zip line across the rainforest canopy (among other things, of course!) My flight has been booked and I can't wait. Here are some things that I'm hoping to squeeze into my week abroad:

- Visit to the Arenal Volcano
- Zip lining through the rainforest
- Coffee Tour
- Snorkeling
- Hang out with some monkeys in Manuel Antonio
- Bike through Manzanillo with howler monkeys
- Night hike through the rainforest
- Dip in the hot springs

I'm heading to MEC on Monday to start getting things together. I already purchased a Gregory Deva 60 backpack which fits nicely on my frame and appears to offset heavy loads, so I'm eager to try that out. I'm going to need travel friendly clothing, a rain cover and airline bag for my pack, a day-pack, and some water purification ideas among other things. I'm also going to take a quick trip to Buffalo within the next month where I'll hopefully find a good price on the waterproof, freeze proof, shatter proof digital camera (Olympus Tough 8000 http://www.olympuscanada.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1448).

I'll post again soon when I have a more definitive itinerary planned out. Backpacking, here I come!!
